Advocating for Safer Dog Training & Boarding in Texas
Too many Texas families trust their dogs to facilities with no oversight. It's time to change that.
Why Texas Dogs Need Better Protection
Millions of Texas families rely on boarding and training facilities to care for their dogs. Many of those dogs are rescues with behavioral needs that require skilled, compassionate handling.
But here's the reality: Texas has almost no mandatory safety standards for dog training or boarding centers. There's limited oversight, minimal accountability, and families often have no legal recourse when things go wrong.
Accidents, injuries, and even fatalities happen in these facilities. And right now, there's very little stopping them.
Three Changes That Would Save Lives
-

Oversight of Training and Certification
The people working with your dog should be trained, certified, and held to professional standards. Right now, there's no requirement for that in Texas.
-

Prompt Family Notification
If a dog gets sick or injured at a facility, the family should be contacted immediately. Not hours later. Not days later. Immediately.
-

A Ban on Shock Collars in Facilities
Aversive tools like shock collars cause pain, stress, and fear. Facilities trusted with your dog's care shouldn't be using them.
Why Advocacy Matters
In 2024, my family lost our dog. She was just one year old. We sent her to a boarding and training facility in Plano, Texas, because we wanted help with some aggression we'd noticed. The place had good references. Within 10 days, she was dead. We never got answers about what happened.
